The printer has the ability to print many types of internal pages without being connected to a computer or to a network. Use the buttons on the operator panel located on the front of the printer to print these page. The most useful internal pages are the menu settings page and the network setup page.
Procedure
Follow the steps below:
Step | Action |
1 | Make sure the printer is on and at the ready state (the light is on solid). |
2 | Make sure there is paper loaded in the paper tray. |
3 | Press the continue button ( ) once. The printer will begin printing the menu settings page(s).Important! Release the button quickly. Do not hold it down for long. |
4 | If the printer is a network-ready model or has an optional internal print server installed, the printer will also print a network setup page. Note: The printer will return to the Ready state after the menu settings and network setup pages have printed. |
Useful Functions
Printing these pages can be useful in a number of ways. For example:
- With the Menu Settings Page (sometimes referred to as an Internal Test Page):
- You can verify that the options you installed are correctly listed in the Installed Features section. NOTE: If an option is not listed under Installed Features, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, and reinstall the option.
- You can verify that the amount of memory installed is correctly listed in the Printer Information section.
- You can verify that the paper trays are configured for the sizes and types of paper you loaded.
- This page, or set of pages, also shows all of the current user settings and code levels on the printer.
- The menu settings page is also useful as a reference tool for locating items in the printer menu system.
- If you are experiencing a configuration problem (for example, paper is feeding from the wrong tray), you can check the current printer settings to make sure they are all correct.
- If the printer is attached to a network, printing a network setup page on the printer will verify the network connection. Check the first section on the network settings page and confirm that the CardStatus is “Connected”. If the card status is “Not Connected”, the LAN drop may not be active or the network cable may be malfunctioning.
- The network setup page also provides important information that helps in configuring the printer for network printing, such as the printer's IP address.
- Keeping a printed copy of the menu settings page and the network setup page means you have a record of the printer's settings in case the printer is ever serviced or a setting is accidentally changed.
- If you are experiencing problems with the functioning of the printer, printing one of the internal pages can be a useful way of determining if the printer hardware is the source of the problem. If one of the internal pages prints correctly, the source of the printing problem is probably not the printer hardware. This is especially helpful for diagnosing communications problems (for example, if the printer does not respond at all when you send a print job to it).
