Disabled NetBIOS Prevents Successful Scan to Network: Required Ports for Scan to Network Solution

ENUS31776

What You Will See

When configuring a network share folder for use with the Scan to Network embedded solution, you are able to successfully share the folder. However, when you initiate a scan from the MFP, the server or client fails to receive the image.

What is Known

  • - Lexmark uses SMB (Server Message Block) to create the shared folder with appropriate permissions.
  • - This SMB implementation uses the NetBIOS session service over (TCP) port 139.
  • - Windows 2000 and above might not have NetBIOS or NetBT* enabled in modern-day network environments, which lack legacy machines – such as Windows NT or Windows 9x.

Other ports utilized by Scan-to-Network

In addition to port 139, verify that these additional ports are not be blocked by the firewall for your router, operating system, or third-party software application.

  • -Port 137
  • -Port 138
  • -Port 9100
  • -Port 9400
