Resolving a wireless printing issue when using the Comcast/Xfinity and/or Rogers/Shaw cable modems

Issue description

Wireless connectivity issues are encountered when connecting Lexmark printers or any multi-function devices to certain models of wireless gateway modems which is supplied by Comcast/Xfinity1 and/or Rogers/Shaw2

  • Wireless connection is successful but unable to print
  • Printer obtains wireless network IP address via DHCP but still unable to print
  • Pinging the printer IP results in a large number of lost packets and/or ping timeouts
  • The embedded web server (EWS) intermittently loads when accessed

Note:  Not all Arris models or wireless gateway telephony modem firmware revisions may exhibit these issues. Issues reported with Arris Surfboard SVG2482AC, Arris TG1682G, Cisco DPC3941T also reported

Note:  Not all Hitron models or wireless gateway telephony modem firmware revisions may exhibit these issues. Issue reported with Hitron CGNV4

The gateways use an Atheros AR9381-AL1A chipset for the 2.4 GHz wireless network.

Solution

The firmware of the device will need to be updated to the latest version available on this link.
