To be able to print on both the front and rear sides of the page, the printer needs to have a
duplex option installed. If your printer does
not have a duplex option installed, you will need to purchase one and install it onto the printer.
If your printer has a duplex option installed, check the
driver/software settings. For instructions on how to check these settings,
xref_HO2642_xref. These settings tell the printer how to print the page and will override any settings on the p rinter.
Try printing again. If the printer still does not automatically print on both sides, confirm that the
paper type selected on your printer corresponds to the media actually loaded into the printer. Do this through the printer driver (
Paper tab) as well as the printer operator panel (
Paper Menu).
IMPORTANT:
Labels
and
transparencies
will print on one side of the page only (simplex) regardless of the printer or driver settings. If the media
type is set to
Labels or
Transparency, change the setting to allow for duplex printing.
Try printing again. If the printer still does not automatically print on both sides, confirm that the printer has detected the installed duplex option. To do this:
Print the menu settings pages.
Look for a section called
Installed Features on one of these pages.
Confirm that the duplex option (
Duplex) is listed in this section.
- If the duplex option is listed, continue with Step 5 below.
- If the duplex option is
not listed, do the following:
Power off the printer and reseat the duplex option.
Print the menu settings pages again.
- If the duplex option is now listed, continue with Step 5 below.
- If the duplex option is still not seen by the printer, there is a problem with either the duplex option or the main printer. As service will be required to fix th e problem, please contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local service provider.
If the printer detects the duplex option but still will not print on both sides of the pages, you can set the
Duplex setting in the printer menus to
ON.
IMPORTANT! Doing this will cause the printer to duplex
every print job by default. You will need to change the
Duplex setting back to
OFF if you wish to print a single-sided job.
Try printing again. If the pages are still not being printed on both sides and you have another printer of a similar model with a working duplex option installed, you can try swapping duplex options between the working printer and the non-working printer.
- If the pr oblem follows the duplex option to the other printer, the duplex option will require service or a replacement.
- If a working duplex option also fails on this printer, the printer will need service.
If the above steps do not resolve the duplexing problem, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.
