What you will see
The errors 200.06, 200.09, 200.10, 297.03 and 250.04 are seen on the printer when using the Multi-purpose Feeder (MPF).
Possible cause
Here are two areas affecting the paper feeding in the MPF:
Areas | Description |
Edge Guide Placement | The MPF only has side edge guides to keep the paper straight. If they are not snug (but not too tight), then the paper can skew and this can lead to jams. |
Loading condition | If the paper is pushed or knocked out of the proper position, such as: - Not loading sheets fully into the tray
- Opening and closing door C while paper is still in the MPF
- MPF kick plate operation in picking sheets at the bottom of the tray
These can lead to conditions where the paper is not in a viable pick position. |

Solution
Perform these steps below to fix the issue.
Step 1. Make sure the edge guides are snug to the paper, but not pinching it, and that the paper is fully supported.
Step 2. Ensure that the paper is fully seated into the MPF tray, with the sheets' leading edge firmly against the dam.
Step 3. Find the long grain direction in loading paper (the direction that the paper has more beam strength). This may help the sheets to feed better.

Explanation
Paper has different beam strength depending on which direction it is cut. Because the paper fibers tend to lineup in one direction, that direction tends to have a higher beam strength (which is the strength that a sheet uses to hold a flat shape when unsupported on one side).
How to find the paper long grain direction
If you hold a sheet on its short edge side and let the other side float free, and then hold it only by the long edge side and leave the other side free, you will find that one of those positions tends to have the paper sticking out straight more, while the other tends to droop more. The direction that stands out more is the higher beam strength direction and will be the long grain direction.
