Issue description
Consider this procedure if you observe any of the following fax symptoms:
- Noisy phone lines with a lot of interference.
- Digital phone lines with poor signal conversion.
- Phone lines with poor signal strength.
- Several fax errors on the fax call or transmission log.
Solution

Lower the Max Send/Receive rate to the slowest possible rate of 9600 for testing purposes. See the following instructions for further information.
Did the lower 9600 speed work?
- If the 9600 bps is successful, increase the speed in increments up to 14.4 kbps.
- If the 9600 bps is not successful, the phone line quality is beyond what is acceptable for fax transmissions, or there is a fax setup issue, or a different phone line issue exists.

Continue to operate the MFP at 14,400 bps or 14.4 kbps.

Optionally, continue to increase the Max Send/Receive rates until failures reoccur, and then report your results to your phone line service/administrator.
Failure explanation
Higher speeds (33.6 kbps) require better phone line conditions.

Click the MENU button.

Click the down-arrow and click SETTINGS when visible.

Locate the MAX SPEED setting.

Click the down-arrow and select 9600.

Obtain the printer's TCP/IP address.

Open your web browser.

In the URL field, type <MFP's IP_ADDRESS>, where IP_ADDRESS is the TCP/IP address of the printer.

Scroll down to FAX SEND or FAX RECEIVE SETTINGS depending on the nature of the fax problem.
