Markvision Enterprise ? Slow Performance or Various Tasks May Fail Due to Unreasonable Actions

What you will see

Markvision Enterprise users see slow performance or a particular scheduled task fails; i.e., creation of large discovery profiles.

Discovery performance limitation (Out of Memory exceptions)

With a... You reach 'JVM' Max Heap Size at...
Freshly restarted MVE server...

About ~200K IPs per discovery profile. This is the upper limit of IPs that can be discovered at any one time before an overlapping task surpasses the operational limit of the application.

Suggested best practices

When you schedule tasks, you should try to:

  • Increase the time interval between scheduled tasks;
  • Further segment individual discoveryprofiles, which can also help increase response time and prevent overlapping tasks;
  • File Download tasks involving large .fls files should be scheduled in a similar fashion, and/or reduce the number of recipient printers. Why? Large file transfers, sent from the MVE server to large or distant printer fleets, result in longer transfer times, increased transfer latency, and greatly extended MVE session times.
  • IF running MVE version older than 3.0, try updating to latest MVE 3.x. Go to this link to for more information about the new MVE version.
