Lexmark Cloud Services: Using Proxy and Proxy Exceptions with the Printer Enrollment Tool (PET)

Affected Products:

Solution: Lexmark Cloud Services (LCS), Cloud Fleet Management (CFM), Printer Enrollment Tool (PET)

Issue Description:

Note: In some environments, the proxy may be set on a workstation.

When the Printer Enrollment Tool (PET) is used here, all transactions, even those that are intended for the printer, may be routed to the proxy server instead of directly to the printer. This may cause the enrollment to fail.

Solution:

The PET uses the http_proxy environment variable. When this variable is set, all traffic will try to pass through the proxy. To bypass the proxy when PET is communicating with the printer, the no_proxy environment variable will need to be set with the printer’s IP addresses. The PET does not support IP ranges in the no_proxy variable, so the printer's IP addresses will need to be entered, separated by commas.

Example: To bypass 3 printer IP addresses;

Variable:no_proxyValue: 192.168.1.20,192.1.1.30,192.1.34.88

Note: Please refer to this article from Computer Hope for setting up Environment Variables for the different Windows Operating System.

The method above will apply to all applications in the workstation. There is a second method that uses a batch file to set the environment variables that will only apply to PET.

The batch file will have to be modified by the customer to have the correct http_proxy and no_proxy values. It will then be placed in the folder where the pet-launcher.exe is located.

From there, the user can double-click the batch file to run PET.
