Overview
Marks or splotches of an unwanted color print at regular intervals on the page. This issue does not cover the entire page (left to right) in the manner of back grounding. Nor does it cover the entire page uniformly from top to bottom. Instead, it repeats the splotches at regular distances down the page. This issue does not have the appearance of speckles or dots, nor is it at random intervals or spacing.

Explanation
Exhausted or worn photoconductor units cause the issue pictured above.

Perform the following checks to verify the issue.
Note:
First generate print samples by printing the Print Defects Guide. This guide will help diagnose defects that repeat at regular intervals down the page. Follow the suggested steps below:• When the printer is at Ready state, press the Menu Button. • Using the Navigation keys, scroll down and select "Help". • Under Help, select the Print Defects Guide. The printer test pages will automatically print. To view the Print Defects Guideprint samples, click here.
Using the Print Defects Guideprint samples, check the following questions to help confirm this is a photoconductor-caused repeating marks issue.
1. Does this issue occur with all colors? (Compare to the attached Print Defects Guideprint sample, if possible).
Yes: The defect is probably not repeating marks.No: Continue analysis; please go to the next step.
2. Is there toner being printed in the areas of the page that should be white or should not contain that color?
Yes: Continue analysis; please go to the next step.No: The defect is probably not repeating marks.
3. Does the defect cover the entire page from left to right and top to bottom?
Yes: The defect is probably not repeating marks.No: Continue analysis; please go to the next step.
4. Does the defect repeat at regular intervals of 72.2 mm or 2.85 inches down the page?

Yes: Continue analysis; please go to the next step.No: The issue is described as repeating randomly or not repeating at all; therefore, it is probably not repeating marks issue.
Troubleshooting
To correct the issue, perform the Color Adjust Procedure. See the steps below:
For Lexmark C73x Series Printers
Steps | Action |
1 | When the printer is at Ready state, press the Menu button. |
2 | Press until appears next to Settings, then press . |
3 | Press until appears next to Quality menu, then press . |
4 | Press until appears next to Color Adjust, then press to initiate the auto-alignment process. |
5 | The printer will return to Ready mode when the progress bar reaches 100%. |
6 | Reprint the Print Defects Guide. Did the Color Adjust resolve the issue? Yes: The issue is resolved.No: Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions. |
For Lexmark X73x Series Printers
Steps | Action |
1 | When the printer is at Ready state, press the icon. |
2 | Press next to Settings. |
3 | Press to scroll down, and press next to Print Settings. |
4 | Press next to Quality Menu. |
5 | Press to scroll down. Look for Color Adjust and press the icon next to it. This initiates the auto-alignment process. |
