The Lexmark X73x Series Printer Display/Operator Panel turns on, but it does not respond to touch; therefore, no access to any of the menus is possible.

Solution

The symptom is experienced when the display cable is connected backwards. Follow the steps below to correct this issue.

Overview

The operator panel on the printer is on; however, it does not respond when you press the icons. Access to any of the menus is therefore unavailable. Follow the suggested steps below to correct the issue.

Troubleshooting

Wait for 30 seconds, and then power the MFP back on. Did the problem continue?

NO: The display panel issue may have been an isolated incident. However, observe the printer closely over the next two weeks to see if the issue returns.YES: Continue with Step 3.


Note:
If you have already tried powering the printer off and on, skip ahead to Step 3.

3If the printer is on and the touch screen display brightness is very dim. Lightly touch the display and see if its panel lights up.

If the display does not respond, then press the Copy (

) button and see if the printer attempts to make a copy. Did the printer attempt to print a copy?

NO: A service call may be required. Please contact a local authorized service center or Lexmark Technical Support for assistanceYES: Continue with Step 5.

If the printer operator panel does not respond when pressing the icons and access to any of the menus is still unavailable, power off the printer. Allow it to sit powered off for 30 seconds or longer.

IMPORTANT! Do not power the printer off and on too quickly. Doing so can cause a power issue with the display panel and create this issue.

6Unplug and clean dust or any other build-up from the MFP power cord. If the power cord is damaged, it will need to be replaced. This will require a service action to the printer. Please contact a local authorized service center or Lexmark Technical Support.

If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet. Power on the printer again. Did the problem continue?

Note:
If printer's power cord is plugged into a power strips, surge protectors, extension cords and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), unplug it and connect it directly to a grounded wall outlet. Some of these devices can interfere with consistent electrical flow and cause the printer to fail to power up properly. (This is true even if the printer has previously worked with these devices.) Should this test not be possible, confirm that the power strip is switched on and functioning correctly.IMPORTANT! Also disconnect any data cables (i.e., parallel, USB, Ethernet) from the rear of the printer before testing. Any defect in a data cable may cause an electrical short circuit that could result in printer hardware issues.
