A '59' or an 'Incompatible Bin 2' Error Appears When a Finisher Option is Connected to a Lexmark X850, X852, or X854 Series Multifunction Printer

The printer displays a 59 error or an Incompatible Bin 2 error every time it is powered on. Please carry out the suggestions below to find a resolution to this issue.

Recommended actions

  1. Power off the printer. Let the printer sit for one minute, then power it back on.

  2. If the printer returns to the Ready state, try printing again.

  3. If the printer prints correctly, continue using the printer as normal. Pay close attention to it over the next few days to see if the error returns. If the printer continues to display a 59 error or an Incompatible Bin 2 error on being powered up or when printing, a service action will be required to correct the issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local authorized service provider for additional assistance. See 'Contacting Lexmark Technical Support' below for more information.

Remove the finisher option

In most cases, the cause of the issue is the finisher option. If that is the case, you can continue to use the base printeruntil service is performed by removing the finisher option from the printer. Do the following:

  1. Power off the printer.

  2. Remove the finisher option from the printer. Make sure to disconnect all cables connecting the printer and the finisher option.

  3. Power on the printer without the finisher option installed.

  4. If the printer returns to the Ready status, you can continue to use the base printer until service is performed on the finisher option.

Is the finisher option compatible with the printer model?

Before arranging a service action on the finisher option, you may want to confirm that it is compatible with the X85x series printers (X850, X852, X854). Refer to the information below. Originally there were two versions of the finisher unit, one for use on the W840 models (part number 25A0030) and one for use with the X85x multifunction series (part number 15R0144 -

However, if your finisher option is one of the 25A0030 models and is installed on a Lexmark X850, X852, or X854 multifunction printer, it may not be compatible with the printer. Both versions are identical in size and contain the same parts but have a different code installed.
