Random light thumping noise
A random thumping noise can develop if the printer sits unused for 4 months or longer. A slight flat spot can develop on the back-up roller on the fuser unit. This flat spot will then cause the solenoid link to move slightly, in turn, causing the solenoid to activate, or "thump", as it would when printing an envelop. You can remove the redrive assembly and observe this happening if you think that is the likely source of the noise.
The recommended service action for this is to replace the fuser assembly.
