451.15 error on the 1K finisher due to the paper scrolling or blocking the 1K top bin path

Issue description

The user encounters a 451.15 paper jam error when using a partially full 1K Finisher top bin with the following media:

  • Letter
  • A4
  • Legal
  • Oficio
  • Folio

The printer is configured with a Folding Paper Transport Unit (FDHTU) and 1K finisher, and an input option load with any larger-sized media (e.g. SRA3, A3, SLD, and LD).

Solution

The 451.15 error indicates a paper jam at the 1K finisher. This can occur when a user sends a larger-sized media pass-through job to the FDHTU top bin (and leaves it there), followed by another pass-through job of LT/A4/LG/OF/FO media to the partially full 1K Finisher top bin.

The SRA3/A3/SLD/LD media are too long and ends up covering the 1K top bin exit if the sheet is fed to the FDHTU.

To avoid this issue, follow these recommendations when printing on larger-sized media (SRA3/A3/SLD/LD):

  1. Use the default 1K top bin for these larger media sizes (SRA3/A3/SLD/LD).

  2. If you must send a print job to the FDHTU top bin, remove the media immediately upon completion.
