Rust Is Present on the ADF Top Cover Sheet and Flatbed Hinges

Affected products

Click Properties in the title section above.

Issue description

When a user unboxes their printer, they noticed some rust on the hinges and exposed sheet metal of the automatic document feeder (ADF).

Explanation

Lexmark sheet metal parts are made of electrolytic zinc-coated steel. The cut edges of the brackets do not have zinc coating due to the pre-plate nature of the steel. Therefore, the underlying steel is susceptible to oxidation. This has been an exposure since pre-plated steel was first used.

Recommendation

The area with rust is not functional and will not affect product performance.
