Lexmark MX431

Dark line or Shadow appears at the bottom of the page when using ADF

Issue description

A shadow appears at the bottom edge of the scanned output when scanning or copying from the automatic document feeder (ADF) using short or narrow media.

Solution

  1. Perform these steps when scanning and copying documents using a narrow media.

    • In scanning documents, make sure that the “Original Size” setting matches the size of the paper being scanned.
      • Fax: Settings > Fax > Fax Setup > Fax Send Settings > Original Size
      • E-mail: Settings > E‑mail > E-mail Defaults > Original Size
      • FTP: Settings > FTP > Original Size
      • USB: Settings > USB Drive> Flash Drive > Scan > Original Size
    • In copying documents, make sure that the "Copy From" size setting is set to the exact size for the paper being scanned.
      • Touch Settings > Copy > "Copy From" size then select the paper size.
      • Touch Copy > Copy From then select the paper size.
  2. When using narrow media with mixed paper sizes, feed the long edge first to the ADF.

Note:  Make sure to use a supported narrow sized paper.

  3. If the issue remains, manually adjust the Scanner Manual Registration.

    • Navigate to Settings > Device > Maintenance > Config Menu > Scanner Configuration > Scanner Manual Registration
    • Select
      • Front ADF
      • Rear ADF (Change the value of this option only when the issue also appears on the second page of a Duplex scan or copy)
    • Select Top Margin and adjust its value to a lower digit.
