Setting up Universal Print on macOS


This topic provides steps and procedures for setting up the Universal Print app for macOS devices.


Download and Installation

Note:  Make sure to check if the Universal Print app is already available in the App Store.

  1. Open the App Store from your macOS and search for the Universal Print app.

  2. Download and install the Universal Print app.

  3. Open System Settings, then Universal Print is now displayed.

Adding printer

  1. Navigate to System Settings > Universal Print.

  2. Click Sign In and sign into an Azure AD account that has a Universal Print eligible license.

  3. Click Add printer….

  4. Search for the printer by using the search field or by selecting a location.

    Note:  Pressing enter after inputting the printer’s share name is needed to display the printer.

  5. Select the printer to add and then click Add.

  6. Once the printer has finished installing, close the application.


Once the printer is installed, it is visible in the macOS system print dialog alongside any other printers that have been installed.

The process to print a document is the same for all printers, including those connected using Universal Print.

Press Cmd+P or click Print when viewing a document for printing.

Removing printer

  1. Navigate to System Settings > Universal Print.

  2. Select the printer to remove.

  3. Click Remove printer.
