White line print quality defect

Issue description

A line of positive static charge on the surface of the belt or hot roll causes the issue. The Line of charge is deposited as the trailing edge of a sheet leaves the nip.

As the positively charged line nears a toned area on the following sheet, the negatively charged toner is attracted to the belt, disturbing the toner and leaving a line of missing or poorly fused toner in the image.

The print defect is likely to appear on:

  • Brown fuser belts only and not on orange belts.
  • Low humidity environment (Greater risk below 20% relative humidity environment, but can be seen up to 60%)
  • Rough and/or Cotton paper, but can occur with some plain papers as well
  • Halftone printing
