Setting up a WSD printer for scanning and printing

Issue description

Since Web Services on Devices (WSD) is an emerging communication method, it is not compatible with all printers or MFPs. Only printers that are equipped with the necessary device profiles for web services (DPWS) architecture functions properly. Contact Microsoft for additional support resources.

WSD print and scan are most useful to you if the following conditions apply:

  • You have Microsoft Windows 7.
  • You have downloaded the individual PCL or PS driver package.
  • You have extracted the driver package.
  • Your printer is communicating on your network.
  • You require or want a minimal amount of additional software on your PC.
  • You do not require an extensive list of scanning options.
  • At this time, the only devices that support WSD are:
    • X548
    • X792
    • X925
    • X950, X952, X954
    • MS and CS series laser printers (print support)
    • MX, CX, XM, XC Series products (scan and print support)

Note:  Any scanner-equipped printer released after 2011 must support WSD.
