Lexmark CX/CSx31 MC/C3xxx and XC/C2326: Washed Out Prints on Solid Colored Areas of the Printout

Affected Products:

Single-Function: CS331, CS431, C2326, C3224, C3326 and C3426

Multifunction: CX331, CX431, MC3224, MC3326, MC3426, MC3224i, MC3326i, MC3426i and XC2326

Issue Description:

While printing a document with media in a cold or humid environment, it has been observed that solid-colored areas of the image seem to be washed out or has poor toner transfer.

It has also been observed that this print quality defect which can appear in the following scenarios:

  • Any type of media that has a rough surface.
  • The printer has just been Powered On (cold start) and/or operating in a cold environment.
  • Continuous heavy printing of narrow sized media with the toner cartridges almost at low level.

Solution:

  1. Print a few pages until the issue is cleared. It is likely that only the first few sheets are affected and causing the issue.Note:Performing this procedure will allow the printer to reach nominal conditions and also warm up.

  2. If the issue persists, load the printer with media from a fresh package.Note:Any type of print media absorbs moisture due to high humidity. Store paper in its original wrapper until you are ready to use it.

  3. Should the issue persist, go to the control panel, navigate to:Settings > Print > Quality > Advanced Imaging > Color AdjustNote: The Color Adjust calibrates the printer to adjust the color variations in the printed output.

  4. Replace the toner cartridge that is likely affected, if the print quality defect still appears.

  5. If the print quality defect is still present, it is suggested to use a smoother and higher quality of media.
