Affected Products:

Issue Description:

This article provides easy instructions on how to remove a paper jam when the media is caught in the fuser nip.

Symptoms

  • Paper is jammed in the fuser.
  • Unable to remove a paper jam.
  • Sheet tears when removing the jam from the fuser.
    • Jam removed in multiple pieces
    • Pieces remain in the machine
  • Nip release levers are not obvious
  • Unable to open the fuser nip by lowering the release levers (blue).

Solution:

Removing Paper Jammed in the Fuser

The jam can easily be removed from the front or the rear of the machine, depending on the location of the jam.The printer has a fuser nip that provides high pressure and temperature to fuse the toner to the page. So, when a paper jam occurs in the fuser nip, jam removal can be difficult, thus, two nip release levers have been provided at the back of the machine to reduce the force needed to remove the paper jam.

  1. Open the printer front door.

  2. Remove the toner cartridge to see the jammed sheet.

  3. Rotate the printer to access the rear door and open it. The nip release levers are only visible when the rear door is opened.

  4. Locate the nip release levers/latches. These levers are blue, indicating a touch point. Rotate them down to open the fuser nip, which will reduce the force needed to remove the paper jam.

  5. Remove the paper jam.
