Lexmark Document Distributor (LDD) ? Lexmark Thumb Print Solution for SAS Institute

Audience: ‘Lexmark Internal’ only

What is Lexmark Thumb Print Solution

Thumb Print is a Lexmark solution allowing flash or "thumb" drive users to print documents directly from their USB storage device that is plugged to a Lexmark multifunction printer. This is a Lexmark Mobile Professional Suite component comprising a simple eSF application and an LDD script. The app is intended for document formats not natively supported by our Lexmark printers, such as Microsoft Office documents.

End-user solution workflow

LDD data workflow

  1. A USB thumb drive is inserted into the Lexmark MFP, the installed eSF application detects the drive and automatically displays the list of files on the drive.

  2. User selects a print job and sets the settings to be used in printing the job. The print job and settings are sent from the printer to the LDD server, then to the Thumb Print solution.

  3. The LDD solution receives the job and launches the conversion software (either Stellent or Open Office, depending on the version being used) to convert the document from its current format to a PDF file.

  4. The resulting PDF file is printed to the originating printer using the print settings selected by the user as described in Step 2.
