The Difference Between Power Saver (Sleep) Versus Hibernation on a Lexmark Printer/MFP

Overview

The new Lexmark mono, color, and MFP laser printers possess a new feature called, "Hibernation". Current printers having this feature are the Lexmark C792, X792, C925, and X925.(
Note:
Future products will also have it). This document outlines the difference between Power Saver (Sleep) versus Hibernation.

Sleep” mode is an enhanced “Power Saver”.

  • There is a product-specific default Sleep timeout.
  • Users can invoke Sleep by simply pressing the Sleep button.
  • Machine is completely available to the network, locally attach, and walk-up user.

Hibernate” mode is essentially OFF, plus the ability to turn off and on based on a schedule.

  • While machine is in Hibernate, think of it as OFF.
  • This mode is disabled by default.

How can I enter and exit my printer/MFP from sleep or hibernation?

What’s the difference?

The Sleep and Hibernate optionshave different approaches toward power saving for Lexmark printers/MFP's. In some situations, Sleep is a better option; in other situations, Hibernation is.

Which should you use: Sleep or Hibernation?

Sleep is the most convenient. From Sleep,it takes only a few seconds for your printer/MFP to wake up. With Hibernate, you must to wait for it to start up again.

Hibernate will save more energy. If savings are your priority, then enable Hibernate on your printer/MFP. Otherwise, set your printer/MFP to Sleep (Power Saver); it will wake up quickly the next time you want to use it.
