Barcode Reader Limitation for Non-English Characters

Overview

A problem was discovered in the barcode reading engine used in eSF apps and solutions wherein an eSF app or solution cannot read the information when users try to scan a barcode that has a non-English character.

This issue occurs when using specific eSF apps or solutions with specific laser devices. See list below.

Affected eSF apps, solutions, and devices

The Apps and Solutions affected are the following:

  • Bar Code Discovery
  • Scan to Network
  • Scan to Network Premium
  • Solution Composer
  • Lexmark Document Distributor (LDD)
  • Lexmark Document Intelligent Capture (LDIC)

The Laser devices affected are the products with hard drives. See the list below:

An x denotes any number within a given printer model series.

Workaround

Developers can write a script to encode the non-English character and then decode as a possible workaround for LDD and LDIC. However, there are no existing workarounds for other eSF apps and solutions.

Additional information – Response Plan

The Product Engineering (PE) team has been made aware of the issue and is currently working with development for a fix with European languages as priority and other languages to follow.
