The printer exhibits the following:
- The paper is observed to be coming out to the standard bin thru the exit rollers.
- As the exit rollers release the sheet’s trailing edge, the sheet hangs over the revolving exit rollers.
- The next exiting sheet crashes into the hanging sheet and proceeds to knock it out into the bin or push it out well past the normal ejection area.
A printed media is expelled into the output bin and collected in the said bin until the paper stack is cleared by a user.
The exit rollers are designed to expel the printed sheet into the output bin which collects the sheets into a uniform stack.
Perform these steps below to affect a positive outcome of the paper output:
Switch to a paper size other than A4. The issue seems to be worse when using A4 paper as the printing medium. This is because the A4 length makes the worst case of resistance to the exiting sheet. If your print jobs do require A4 paper size, proceed to Step 3.
Flip the paper stack in the source tray. This may have an effect on the beam strength of the paper as it exits the printer and may help alleviate the occurrence rate of the issue.
Note: This recommendation has more to do with situations where the humidity of the environment has an effect on paper curl. The exposed side of the paper stack tends to curl more than the side that is touching the tray. By doing the flip, the W curl of the incoming sheet is reduced because the humidity has not had time to have an effect on the picked sheet.
Run the printer at full speed by disabling the Eco-Mode in the printer settings menu. Go to Settings > Device > Power Management > Eco-mode > Off.
Note: There are cases where this countermeasure is not applicable, e.g. printing a 1200 dpi file.
It has been found that this issue is a result of a combination of a number of factors that include the following:
- Paper length - A4 length paper comprises 85% of the errors
- Beam strength of the exiting sheet
- Geometry of the output bin extender
- Process speed
- W curl
Under certain conditions, the resistance presented to an exiting sheet (paper to paper friction, leading edge to output bin extender resistance) becomes greater than the exit roller driving force. When this happens, the sheet can hang on the exit rollers allowing for a succeeding sheet to crash into the hanging sheet and push it out of the output bin. This seems to be worst with an A4 paper as the length is just right that as the sheet is released from the exit rollers, the leading edge is right at the point of high resistance of the output bin extender.
Loss of collation
When a loss of collation occurs, you may encounter any of the following scenarios:
- Printed expelled into the output bin farther than intended, resulting in an uneven output stack with individual sheets sticking out.
- Printed paper pushed out of the output bin and ends up on the multipurpose feeder (MPF) tray. This happens only if the MPF tray is in the open position. This usually results in the printed sheet being picked by the MPF and recirculated into the machine, most likely ending up as a 200.03 jam.
- Printed paper pushed out of the output bin and gets in between the gap between options trays or an option and primary tray. This usually results in the printed sheet blocking the path of a picked sheet from the lower paper handling device ending up as a 242.X6 or 200.X3 jam (The X value is the tray source).
- Printed paper pushed out of the output bin and falls on the floor.
