Troubleshooting 189.00 Service Engine Error

What you will see

The printer posts a “Service Error [189.00] Engine Error” while using two 500-Sheet Trays or a 2500-Sheet Option Tray.

Possible cause

There are several factors that might result in this error, but one possibility is that the Option Tray data cable connecting the printer and the two 500-Sheet Trays or 2500-Sheet Tray have been disconnected or perhaps not seated properly.

The Option Tray data cable has been disconnected from its connector.The Option Tray data cable is only partially seated in its connector.

Recommended solution

1Power off the printer.
2Make sure that the Option Tray data cable is connected properly. Reseat the cable if necessary.
3Power on the printer and see whether the error clears.
