Lexmark MS91x / MX91x / CS92x / CX92x ? Stapled Documents Are Rolled/Curled on Bin 2

Table of contents

Issue description

When printing documents that require stapling, the paper curls on Output Bin 2 as it reaches its 100th set of stapled document sets. This issue does not happen when printing regular non-stapled documents.

The curling may not result in a paper jam, but customers may call in complaining about messy or improperly stacked printouts. Click here to view the sample video.

Possible cause

This is a design issue and NO parts replacement can fix it.

Explanation

If a Lexmark device prints a staple job of at least a 100 pages of 2 to 4 sheets per stapled set, the finished stapled sets will then stack up on each other, thus producing a height difference between the corner of the set having the staple in contrast to the other corners without staples. Therefore, the optical bin sensors will follow the corner with the highest point (the one with staples) and will move the extended bin down.

When the next print job comes out of the finisher, it hangs down on the side of the stacked documents without staples and eventually it begins to bow and fold into a roll. If printing continues, these print jobs will land fully upside down.

Workaround

To avoid getting a messy stack of stapled documents as described above, the only recommendation at this time is to limit the number of consecutive stapled job sets in the output bin to 50 or so. Curling will not happen if the output stack of stapled job sets is kept relatively small.
