Lexmark CS92x, CX92x and XC9225 ? Output Capacity: Failure to Meet Booklet Tray Stack Height Specification on Some Media

Table of Contents

Issue description

Absorbed moisture causes the sheets to curl or swell. This can cause the media to fail to meet the tray's stack height, yet still trigger the "Bin Full" message.

Booklet fails with the following scenarios:

  • 10-sheet saddle-stitch on 217 – SRA3 paper
  • 164 Ledger paper, and 312 – A3 paper
  • 3-sheet bi-fold on 301 – A4 paper
  • 3-sheet saddle-stitch on 312 – A3 paper

Solution

Perform these steps below to fix the issue:

StepAction
1 Change the paper being used with a fresh ream of paper.
Note:
Using a newly opened ream of paper results in less curl. Some media will exhibit less curl and absorb less water than others.
2

Reduce fuser temperature to reduce paper curl. This is done by changing some settings on the printer:

  • For monochrome print jobs with Plain paper type, change the Texture from Normal to Smooth.
  • For color print jobs on CS921/CS923/CX921/CX922 models with Plain paper type, change the Texture from Normal to Rough.
  • For color jobs on CX924 model, change the Paper Type from Plain to Letterhead and also change Texture from Normal to Smooth (This slows down the steps to the half).

Changing the paper settings can be done either on the printer's control panel or via embedded webserver (EWS – typing the printer IP on a browser) and navigate through Settings > Paper > Media Configuration > Media Types > Plain Paper > Texture or Weight.
