Lexmark CS92x & CX92x ? Intermittent Loud Noise from the High Capacity Input Tray (HCIT)

Table of contents

Issue description

When printing from the High Capacity Input Tray (HCIT), It makes an intermittent loud noise. Observers say that the issue usually occurs when the tray is almost out of paper.

Explanation

It was determined that the High Capacity Input Tray (HCIT) produced the noise, caused by the lift plate. This issue is intermittent and is seldom observed.

The noise comes from the lift plate, which will drop all the way when the door on the HCIT is opened. When the door is closed, the lift plate engages to lift the paper sheets to a pick position. Should there be a small amount of media in the tray, it will then take the lift plate longer to reach the pick position, thus producing the loud noise.

Workaround

A workaround was found to prevent this issue from occurring – make sure to keep the HCIT fully loaded, when possible. The reason for this is that closer it is to full, the less time the lift plate motor will engage to move the paper to the pick position.

If the noise is still intermittent, please refer to the Contacting Lexmark section for additional assistance.
