Lexmark CX924

Communication protocols required by LDD

Overview

Lexmark Document Distributor (LDD) communicates with the printer using many communication protocols. The protocol to be used differs on the LDD configuration and the types (generations) of the printers used by an organization.

Communication Protocols

Simple Network Management Control (SNMP) and Multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) should be set to Read and Write and the community names should match what is set in LDD.

Protocols:

mDNS

  • This should always be set to On under the TCP/IP settings of your printer if it supports this protocol.

Why is this important?

SNMP v1, 2, or 3, mDNS, NPA, Objectstore, LST, web services, and others, are types of communication protocols required by LDD to successfully sync with the printer for any of following functions:

  • Discovering printers
  • Querying printer settings (discovery) and policy configurations, such as: - NPA ID - Model name - Serial number - eSF app code leve - Contact name - Contact location - MAC address - Fax forwarding
  • Policy configurations: profiles, home screens
  • Pushing policy updates - Home screens - eSF apps - Security settings (ucf / vcc) - Fax forwarding - cSF apps
  • Launching of a profile on the printer
  • Other printer eSF apps (SoCo, ScanToSharePoint, etc.) performing client software job submissions into LDD (web services)
  • Printer cSF app hosting and setting communications (web services)
