Importing the printer settings using Cloud Fleet Management

Overview:

This document describes how to remotely import (or deploy) printer settings files or bundles using Cloud Fleet Management (CFM).

Creating the Settings File:

When creating a printer settings configuration file or bundle, it is best to start with a configuration exported from an existing printer. Then make whatever modifications are required. This ensures that the format of the file is correct. Once the new file or bundle has been created it should be imported manually through the Embedded Web Server of a printer to verify that the new file or bundle is valid.

Different printer families have different settings file or bundle formats. The method for creating settings files or bundles is outside of the scope of this document

Deploying the Settings File or Bundles:

There are two methods for deploying settings files or bundles using CFM:

  • Deploying files
  • Deploying a configuration

Deploying files

This option does not retain the files deployed. All steps in this option must be performed each time settings files or bundles are to be deployed to a set of printers.

  1. Select one or more printers from the Printers listing page

  2. Click Configure then "Deploy apps and settings files."

  3. "Choose" or "drag and drop" the file(s) to be deployed and click Deploy File

  4. A task will be given to each selected printer to deploy the file(s)

    • The files deployed will not be retained after the deploy task(s) complete

Deploying a configuration

This option retains the files deployed for later use. Only steps in the “Configuration deployment” section must be performed when the settings file or bundle are to be deployed to a set of printers.

Creating a Resource

  1. Click Configuration and Resource Library

  2. Click "Create" and fill out the Create Resource form. Set the Type to "Settings bundle."

    • This creates a reusable resource that can be added to configurations.
    • Set the Type to match the type of resource file being uploaded.
      • UCF file - for eTask v4 printers or older
      • Settings bundle - for eTask v5 printers or newer
  3. Create a Configuration that includes the resource just created.

    • This Configuration can contain just the resource by itself or can include other deployable items.

Configuration deployment

  1. Select one or more printers on the Printers page

  2. Click "Configure" then select "Deploy configuration."

  3. Select the configuration from the list and click Deploy Configuration

  4. A task will be given to each selected printer to deploy the configuration.
