Lexmark CX72x and XC41xx: Scan / Copy Quality Diagnosis ? Black Area when Scanning / Copying Using the ADF and Flatbed

Affected Products:

Multifunction: CX725, CX727, XC4140, XC4143, XC4150 and XC4153

Issue Description:

A broad black area appears on the document when scanning or copying using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and Flatbed. A sample image is shown below.

Solution:

  1. Make sure to check whether the scanner glass is clean and free of any marks. Clean the glass with a lint-free cloth.

  2. Check the printer's scan/copy settings, such as the darkness levels, content, background removal and shadow detail.

  3. Determine if the issue occurs only when scanning /copying by printing the “Print Quality Samples”. To do this from the Control Panel, navigate through: Settings > Report > Print Quality Pages.

  4. Should the issue persist when scanning and copying, please contact Lexmark Technical Support and have the samples analyzed for troubleshooting suggestions.
