Can I use the Lexmark MFP's built in Fax Server E-mail feature to send a fax to an OpenText RightFax server?

The built-in MFP Fax Server E-mail feature can forward a fax via e-mail with attachment to the RightFax server. It does require the fax to travel over the SMTP protocol to the RightFax server and requires use of the RightFax SMTP/POP3 gateway.

How does the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app communicate with the RightFax server that's different from the MFP built-in Fax Server E-mail feature?

The Scan to RightFax app communicates with the RightFax server directly in real time using a Web Services protocol. Scan to Rightfax also adds 30 configurable RightFax profiles, custom job acknowledgement and select fax job parameters. Lexmark's built-in Fax Server E-mail feature does not include this capability.

Is the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app free?

The Lexmark Scan to RightFax app is a fee-based licensed, premium app. The app provides unique value is not offered to our customers for free.

Are prospective customers required to purchase any additional software from OpenText to work with the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app?

The Lexmark Scan to RightFax app communicates with the OpenText RightFax server using Web Services. Customers must purchase a RightFax Advanced Web Services module from OpenText to use the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app. The RightFax Advance Web Services module is an add-on to the OpenText RightFax server.

Does Scan to RightFax provide fax delivery confirmation?

Scan to RightFax provides is a confirmation when the scan is successfully sent to the RightFax server. This confirmation indicates the RightFax server has control of the image and is responsible for performing the remaining fax steps. There is no confirmation when the fax is actually delivered by RightFax server to the destination fax server.

Does Scan to RightFax provide access to the RightFax Address Book?

The current integration does not provide access to the RightFax Address Book.

Does Scan to RightFax allow users to authenticate at the Lexmark MFP using their RightFax credentials?

Users can authenticate at the MFP with their RightFax credentials.

What is the major differentiator between Lexmark Scan to RightFax and other RightFax connectors on the market?

According to OpenText, Lexmark was the first MFP vendor to create a direct integration with the RightFax Advanced Web Services API. Since Lexmark integrates using the API, our MFPs deliver the scanned image to the fax server in real-time. At the time of announce in late 2013, Lexmark was the only MFP vendor who had a real-time integration into the RightFax server. The real-time integration allows our MFPs to deliver the image directly to the RightFax server. All other MFP integrations in the market scanned an image to a folder which requires the RightFax server to monitor the folder (or poll) and fetch the image from the folder. The polling method suggests that implementations by the competitor could not accurately deliver a notification when the RightFax server had received the scanned image.

Can Scan to RightFax create profiles?

Scan to RightFax has the ability to create up to 30 profiles. A profile allows a user to define destination fax servers and scan settings which are saved into a "shortcut" that can easily be accessed from the app. The profile can save users time by preventing the entering of fax numbers and scan profiles for fax destinations that are used repeatedly by the user.

Does Scan to RightFax require the use of an e-mail (SMTP) gateway?

The Scan to RightFax app does not require the use of an e-mail gateway. All communications from the Scan to RightFax app occur over web services using the RightFax Advanced Web Services API.

How does the Scan to RightFax app differ from the "Scan to RightFax XML" app created by the North American Professional Services team?

Scan to RightFax uses the RightFax Advanced Web Services API which is a direct integration into the RightFax server. It requires the optional OpenText Advanced Web Services module to be added to the RightFax server.

In contrast, the Scan to RightFax XML app developed by North American Professional Services creates a XML file that is written to a shared folder. The shared folder is monitored (i.e. polled at a standard interval) by the RightFax server which determines the file is present and copies to the server. Since the Scan to RightFax XML app uses XML, it requires the optional OpenText XML connector for MFPs to be added to the RightFax server.

What version of RightFax server does Lexmark Support when using Scan to RightFax?

Lexmark has tested and supports RightFax server v10.5 with the Scan to RightFax app.

Which RightFax connectors are currently available from Lexmark?

Lexmark current markets two solutions: MFP built-in Fax Server feature and Scan to RightFax app. The Scan to RightFax XML version developed by North American Professional Services is no longer marketed.

When using Scan to RightFax app, can the user see a status of the fax in their FaxUtil desktop client?

If the user enters their RightFax ID at the MFP when using Lexmark Scan to RightFax, the ID is passed to the RightFax server. Once the RightFax server has the user's ID associated with the fax, the user will get all notifications they have registered for on the RightFax Server. The notifications could include on screen notifications at the desktop in the FaxUtil client, e-mail notifications (SMTP, Exchange, Lotus Notes) and even SMS notifications if they have this option configured on their RightFax server.

Does the RightFax Advanced Web Services support integration with the RightFax Phonebook?

The current RightFax Advanced Web Services API has somelimited phonebook capabilities. To take full advantage of the phonebook capabilities, it would require OpenText to enhance the API. It would also require Lexmark development to build the phonebook features into the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app.

Why didn't my RightFax dealer know about RightFax Advanced Web Services?

RightFax Advanced Web Services was introduced to the market in October 2013 by the OpenText Professional Services team. Since it was released recently, some of the RightFax resellers may not have received notification about the offering.

How is RightFax Advanced Web Services sold?

RightFax Advanced Web Services (AWS) is sold per MFP by OpenText. Any customer who wants to use the Lexmark Scan to RightFax solution must purchase AWS for all MFPs that need the service.

In addition to RightFax Advanced Web Services, is there any other software or licenses required from OpenText to allow the Lexmark Scan to RightFax app to work?

The RightFax Advanced Web Services module is the only item that must be purchased from OpenText to allow the Lexmark Scan to RightFax solution to work.

Why is OpenText Professional Services required to install RightFax Advanced Web Services on an existing RightFax server?

According to OpenText, Professional Services is not required to be purchased with RightFax Advanced Web Services. Customers can purchase this module from OpenText and install it themselves. While it is possible for the customer to install themselves, OpenText recommends having PS install it.

Can the FAX SEVER feature built into firmware provide notifications to a user?

The FAX SERVER feature built into the MFP's firmware cannot send notifications. However, if the RightFax User ID is configured to the same e-mail address used by the MFP when sending the fax to the server, the RightFax server will resolve the user's e-mail address with the e-mail address stored for the RightFax user. If there is a match RightFax will look up the ID of the user and provide notifications.

Can inbound faxes received by a RightFax server be routed to a Lexmark MFP?

When a fax is sent to a RightFax server, the RightFax server has the ability to route the fax to a specific printer. This functionality is provided by the RightFax server. It is not provided by the Scan to RightFax app.

Can the Lexmark MFP receive a fax on the analog modem and route it to the RightFax server?

Lexmark MFPs do not include the ability to receive a fax on the analog modem and route it to a fax server. However, if the MFP has the Fax Forward app installed on it, the app can route a received fax to a shared network folder (using the SMB protocol). The RightFax server could monitor the shared network folder and import the image.

What authentication is supported by the Scan to RightFax app?

Currently the application only support RightFax username and password. It does not support NT Authentication and other authentication types.

What bit depth must an image file have to be compatible with RightFax?

The RightFax server requires a 1-bit image (black & white). Files of different bit depth (8-bit, 24-bit, etc.) are not compatible.

Can RightFax send a color fax?

RightFax only supports faxing as a bitonal (black & white) image.
