PDF/A-1a and PDF/A-1b Support Explained

Explanation

It is generally a true statement that PDF/A-1bis a subset of the PDF/A-1a requirements; however, PDFA-1a and PDFA-1b files have subtle differences, thus, a PDFA-1a file may not pass the validations tests for PDF/A-1b.

Lexmark Support Statement

The Lexmark laser printers support PDF/A-1a. However, PDF/A-1b is supportedonly on the newer products.
