Hole Punch Unit (HPU) ? Dog-Ears Are Observed at the Right and Left-Hand Corners of the Paper

What you will see

Paper exits at the output bin with "dog-ears" (see images below) at either the left or right-hand corner of the leading edge. As the sheets pile-up at the output bin, before the bin is filled, the leading edge of succeeding sheets catch the folded corners of the dog-eared media, which produces jams. Unless you empty this tangled media stack at the output bin, successive jams will occur.

NOTE:
16lbs-LT, 60g-A4, A5, Statement, and Executive media are more like to experience this issue.

Dog-ears are often big, not hard- folded, and usually occur when paper curl is excessive, as shown above.Example of a dog-ear on a sheet's right-hand corner, before the puncher activated.

Recommended solution

This issue is more prevalent on curled and lightweight media.
NOTE:
The printer does not possess settings that can be adjusted to avoid this occurrence. What you can do to reduce the effect of curling is to use media that is dry and fresh out of a ream. If the sheets have been sitting in the tray for quite some time, flip the stack over in the tray before printing from it.

How to remove the paper jam

Should paper jam occur, follow the directions below in order to locate and remove the jammed pages and resume printing.

1Should the jam occur inside the HPU, the most effective way of removing the jammed sheet is by using the Jam wheel. To find this wheel, you need to open the rear door of the HPU. See the right-side image.
