'Scanning' Displayed and ADF Pauses or Hesitates when Scanning to a Network Folder

What you will see

Your printer experiences multiple fluctuations in the ADF feed rate or speed when you select an SNF destination (shortcut) and scanning color originals.

For example, the first two pages of a six-page job scan without hesitation, which is followed by a pause before scanning the next two pages, and then you witness one last, longer pause before scanning the final two pages.

You may also notice performance differences based on scanning function; i.e., Scan to PC vs. Scan to Network vs. Scan to App vs. Scan to FTP vs. selecting high PDF compression vs. selecting device-based optical character recognition.

Explanation

These deviations in scanning performance are a design function. Scanning in color, for example, can absorb over four times as much memory on the MFP as a typical monochrome scan job would absorb.

Content complexity, available memory, compression rates, and configuration selections for resolution, color depth, and content type all have an impact on scan performance. Lastly, the presence of an installed mechanical HD may cause fluctuations in scanning performance due to HD caching.
