843.18 scanner error

Issue description

The following scenario occurs when trying to copy from the Auto Document Feeder (ADF):

  • The ADF tray immediately lowers.
  • The printer posts 843.18 scanner error.
  • 843.18 scanner error appears before the printer reboots and disables the scanner.
  • Device then reboots and disables scanner.
  • The error appears only when using the ADF. The machine copies from the flatbed with no problem.

Note:  The issue most likely started after replacing ADF maintenance kit.

Solution

Before calling for service, check whether the ADF Autocomp is installed and fully seated.

  1. Open the ADF and remove the green cover.

  2. Verify that the Autocomp is latched properly onto shaft.

    CORRECT: A Autocomp latched onto shaft; B – Flag fully inside the photosensor

    INCORRECT:

    A Autocomp NOT latched onto shaft; B – Flag partly inside the photosensor
  3. If the Autocomp is not properly latched onto the shaft OR should the error persist even if the Autocomp is properly latched, contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.
