44.xx errors on devices with RFID option tray installed

\

Issue Description:

  • 44.01 error indicates that the printer attempted to program an RFID tag and failed to do so. This error will only appear on the CS725/CX725 printer models installed with an RFID option tray.

  • 44.10 – 44.36 errors are also seen on the CS725/CX725 printer models installed with an RFID option tray. These errors all indicate a problem with the incoming RFID print job data stream. Each error code points to a specific issue with the RFID Tag Command in the data stream. These error codes are outlined in detail in the CS/CX725 RFID Programmers Guide.
    NOTE:
These errors do NOT indicate hardware issues or issues with the RFID media.

Troubleshooting 44.01 Error:

Note:

If the ‘Mark on Error' setting in the RFID menu is set to ‘ON’, the

bad tag mark

will also be printed on the RFID media along with the 44.01 error displayed on the control panel.

IMPORTANT!

CS725/CX725 fitted with RFID option trays run special firmware. Do NOTupdate the firmware on these devices with regular firmware or it will disable the RFID function. Escalate the issue to the PE team if updated firmware is needed.

44.01 Error on Every Page

  • Verify whether the user is printing on RFID media.

  • Make sure the RFID media is loaded in the Tray 3 or 4 slot and not in Tray 1.
    Note:
The RFID option is always installed in the Tray 2 position below Tray 1.

  • Verify whether printer/driver/job settings are selecting the exact tray holding the RFID media (it should be either Tray 3 or 4).

  • Verify if the RFID media is rotated to the correct orientation for the user’s application. This varies by customer, and should be specified by the customer’s RFID system design.

44.01 Error on Some Pages

  • Verify whether the media has an RFID tag attached or embedded. If not, verify the printer/driver/job settings are selecting the correct input tray, and that the tray is loaded with RFID media.

  • Check if the Retry Count menu setting (Settings > RFID > Retry Count) is greater than zero. If the Retry Count is nonzero and the error happens every N pages, follow the instructions for “44.01 Error on every page”.

  • Check whether the failed pages are oriented opposite the “good” pages. Due to the way RFID media is packaged, some sheets in the input stack may be rotated, which may cause them to fail to program.

The media could be damaged or faulty. Ask the user to try to read and/or write the tags with a desktop or handheld RFID reader, if possible. Should the tags be readable, a printer/option hardware problem might exist. Escalate the issue to PE.

Troubleshooting 44.10 – 44.36 Errors:

These errors indicate that the RFID data within the print job is invalid. These errors do NOT indicate problems with the hardware or media. Do not dispatch service but instead escalate to next level so they can work with PE to verify that the RFID data format is valid or invalid.'

Each specific error code indicates a specific type of problem with the RFID data. These codes are outlined in the RFID Programmer’s Guide.
Note:
Some versions of the RFID user guide may describe a '44.23' error as 'The RFID tag length provided in the tag command does not match the actual tag length'. The tag length is not referring to the physical tag. Instead it is referring to the number of bytes in the tag command data field.

IMPORTANT!

CS725/CX725 fitted with RFID option trays run special firmware. Do NOTupdate the firmware on these devices with regular firmware or it will disable the RFID function. Escalate the issue to the PE team if updated firmware is needed.
