How to Install an A4 Block in a 550-Sheet Tray of the Lexmark MS71X, MS81X, MX71X, & MX81X Series Printers

Overview

This document will explain the step-by-step procedure on how to install an A4 block in a 550-sheet tray. The block's purpose is to keep the tray's rear guide fixed in A4 size and thus prevent it from be adjusted for longer media sizes. This is helpful in preventing possible rear-guide breakage due to repeated high impact insertions of the tray.

IMPORTANT! This block is only intended for 550 trays having the 40G3101 serial number. To verify this, empty the tray of media and flip it over to check the mark on the tray's underside. See image below.

Installation procedure

1Press the green tab (Image 1a) to unlatch the rear guide and then move the guide all the way to the front (Image 1b).

2Install the block as shown with the Rail (A) inserted under the tray opening (B), with block closed to the Rear guide, as shown.

3Rotate the block down over the tray and slide it over with block’s tabs (A) on top of the tray, as shown in Image 3b, until you get to tray slot (B) for the left tab, as indicated.

4Push the block's left tab underneath the tray ribs.

5While the left tab is underneath the tray rib, move the block all the way to the back of the tray until you hear a click.

Unlatch the rear guide and move it all the way to the A4 position.
