General troubleshooting guide for 900.00 error code system software errors

Issue description

A 900.00 or 900.xx (900.80, 900.43, 900.57, 900.30, etc.) error is displayed on the operator panel.

The Error Code 900 can occur after powering up a device or while printing, copying, scanning, sending/receiving faxes, or other actions performed on the device.

These errors can be caused by a defect/bug in the?printer/MFP firmware?or a?hardware failure. Agents or Users should rule out firmware as the cause first before moving on to considering it a hardware issue.

Solution

Before contacting Lexmark technical support for assistance, check if the device is running the latest firmware. Check these steps to update firmware.

Step 1.

  1. Perform a Power On Reset.

  2. Check if a 900.00/900.xx error appears.

Did a 900.00/900.xx error code appear?

YES: Take a photo of the error message and proceed to Step 2.

NO: Skip to Step 4.

Step 2.

  1. Turn off printer.

  2. Unplug any network cable, USB cable, or fax line from the back of the printer.

  3. Turn on the printer.

Does the problem remain?

YES:

Contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.

NO: Proceed to Step 3.

Step 3.

  1. Check the printer driver queue and clear out any pending print jobs.

  2. Plug the network cable or USB cable at the back of the printer.

Does the problem remain?

YES:

Contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.

NO: Proceed to Step 4.

Step 4.

Make sure the printer is running the latest version of firmware.

With the printer running the latest recommended level of firmware, does the problem remain?

YES: Contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.

NO: The problem is resolved.
