How to manipulate sound controls

Overview

Some customers, who find the button feedback or fax ringer too loud, usually turn the Quiet mode ON thinking they will disable the touch screen sound. Quiet mode does turn the fax speakers and alarms off; however, it also runs the print job at half the speed.

This article shows how to manipulate the sound controls and describes the functions for Fax and Quiet mode.

Index

Audio feedback

This printer function specifies the audio volume for the buttons. The menu can be accessed through Settings > General Settings > Audio Feedback.

  • Button Feedback: ON or OFF
  • Volume: 1-10 (soft to loud)

Note:  Touching the arrow on the key board can override this setting.

To disable the touch screen sound, set the button feedback to the OFF position.

Key Board Arrow

The keyboard arrow button can control the sound level of the touch screen without going through the Audio Feedback menu. Pressing this button will override the volume settings without any notification from the screen. Click here for an illustration.

Fax speakers

Fax (short for facsimile), sometimes called telecopying or telefax (the latter short for telefacsimile), is the telephonic transmission of scanned printed material (both text and images), normally to a telephone number connected to a printer or other output device.

This function usually has notification sounds, where you have the option to set the volume to HIGH and LOW or to switch the volume to ON or OFF. The Menu can be accessed through Settings > Fax Settings > Analog Fax Set Up > Speaker Settings from the embedded web server (EWS).

  • Speaker Volume: HIGH or LOW
  • Ringer Volume: ON or OFF

To stop the Ringer sound, turn the Ringer volume OFF.

Quiet mode

A Lexmark printer feature that significantly reduces acoustics produced during a print job by running the print engine at a slower speed. Overall performance is slower.

Note:  Never turn this ON to lower the volume, but instead disable the touch screen sound and fax sound.
