Intermittent 121.16 Fuser Error message

Issue description

During the power-up sequence, or after the printer recovers from sleep mode, or after opening and closing the front cover, the printer/MFP stops and does not come to the Ready screen. The control panel screen displays an intermittent “Service Error [121.16] Fuser Error”.

Solution

Although the 121.16 is a service error, certain rare occurrences, such as a power fluctuation, or a stray static discharge in the vicinity of the printer, can cause this issue. In such cases, the issue is temporary and can be easily resolved without service by performing a power cycle. Perform the following steps if the error re-occurs at a later time after performing power cycle.

  1. Disable the Power Saver. To do this: Access the Configuration Menu, see the following section.

    For CS310 models:

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Press and hold the OK and Right buttons.

    3. Turn on the printer.

    4. Release the buttons after 10 seconds.

    For CS410 and CS510 models:

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Press and hold the 2 and 6 buttons.

    3. Turn on the printer.

    4. Release the buttons after 10 seconds.

    For CX310, CX410 and CX510 models:

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Press and hold the 2 and 6 buttons while turning on the printer.

    3. Release the buttons when the splash screen appears.

    Note:  If the these steps are done correctly, the configuration menu should appear on the display with the words CONFIGURATION MENU at the top.

  2. On the Configuration Menu, use the Navigation keys to scroll down and select Energy Conserve.

  3. Select Off in Energy Conserve to allow Power Saver in the printer’s Setup Menu to display Disable as an option.

  4. Exit the Configuration Menu by pressing the Exit Config Menu icon and let the printer boot to Ready.

  5. Once the printer returns to the Ready status/screen, scroll down and select Settings.

  6. Under Settings, scroll down and select Print Settings. Scroll down again and select Setup Menu.

  7. Under Setup Menu, select Disable on the Power Saver.

IMPORTANT! If the error persists or you are having difficulties performing the steps above, contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.
