Unable to Find Searchable PDF Documents in Windows 7 and 8 64-bit

What you will see

You cannot find any searchable PDF* documents when searching in Windows 7 and 8 64-bit systems. These documents are generated using an Optical Character Recognition app (e.g., AccuRead OCR).

Recommended solution

To resolve this issue, install the missing iFilter (PDF iFilter 64 11.0.01) in Windows 64-bit systems.


NOTE:
This will correct the issue only with new documents. To be able to search previously indexed documents, make sure to rebuild the index by performing the following:

1 Click Start, and then select Control Panel.
2 Change View By to Small Icons, and then select Indexing Options.
3 Click Advanced.

On the Indexing Settings tab, click Rebuild, and then OK.

Explanation

The PDF iFilter for Windows 64-bit is not available. This is a limitation of the Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 64-bit search engine. Enable indexing in Windows by installing the Adobe PDF iFilter described in the preceding section.
