Preliminary print quality checks
Before you begin
If the customer has not yet printed any internal test pages, a good starting point is to print a 'Menus Settings' page or 'Print Quality' pages. This immediately confirms a possible hardware or supplies issue.

- Print resolution -- 600 dpi
- Toner darkness -- 8
- Supply status -- Low, Ok

Skew checkWhat to do? Determine a paper path issue.
Load Tray 1 with 20lb. Letter or A4 size paper. Make sure the paper-tray guides are properly seated for the paper size loaded.
Print Quality Pages again to determine success. If you no skew if present from tray 1, repeat these steps to isolate additional trays until you can identify the source.
Operating conditions check
What to do? Request information about the printer environrment's temperature, humidity and air quality conditions.
If any indicators suggest poor operating conditions, then ask the customer to relocate printer to a different location, and then print the Quality Pages again to determine success.
Other checks
- Check that the proper print driver(PCL, PS, XPS) is installed for a particular file type or application.
- Change driversto determine any change in print quality.
- Adjust driver settingswhen applicable.
- Check Scan Settings under Copy Setup.
- Checkscanner platen glassand ADF glass for debris.
- Compare simplex vs.
duplex print output
to identify issue occurs on both sides of the page. - Look for consistent and repeatable anomalies versus inconsistent and random anomalies to better understand the nature of the print problem.
