Lexmark Display Customization 4.2.x help resources and suggested troubleshooting tips

Overview:

The Display Customization app enables users to customize an MFP screen with custom images that can be displayed as a slide show, displayed as wallpaper or used as a screensaver.

Features:

Screen SaverWhen enabled, image(s) will be displayed while the device is idle. If security is applied on Screen Saver, user will be prompted to authenticate first before homescreen can be accessed.

  • Upload images to use as screen saver.
  • Use images from flash drive as screen saver.
  • Specify a default interval for all images.
  • Specify an interval to apply on a specific uploaded image.
  • Display time, custom text and device status on screen saver.
  • Quick access (only compatible with Card Authentication as of Nov 2015)

SlideshowWhen enabled, users can launch this from homescreen to start a slide show of custom images.

  • Upload images to display in slide show.
  • Use images from flash drive as screen saver.
  • Specify a default interval for all images.
  • Specify an interval to apply on a specific uploaded image.
  • Enable loop.

WallpaperWhen enabled, users can launch this from homescreen to change the eTask wallpaper.

  • Choose a wallpaper from images that come with the app.
  • Upload a custom image.

Supported Devices:

Any Lexmark device that supports eSF v5.0 applications with a minimum 256 MB of memory and the required level of firmware appropriate for that device.

  • CS820 (YK.02.041 or later)*
  • CX820 (PP.02.041a or later)
  • CX825 (L), CX860 (H) (PP.02.041a or later)
  • CS725 (CB.02.042 or later)*
  • CX725 (ATL.02.015 or later)

Background and Idle Screen Image did not Display:

Issue Description: None of the Background and Idle Screen (BIS) images are getting displayed. Only the Lexmark Splash screen.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Ensure that the Background and Idle Screen (BIS) is installed.

  2. Add Idle images in embedded web server (EWS) settings

  3. Ensure the app is enabled.

  4. Print a job from the Multipurpose Feeder (MPF).

  5. Remove the paper while printing to post an IR.

  6. Observe the printer.

The machine stopped printing but it shows a Lexmark splash screen instead of the loaded Background and Idle Screen (BIS) images.

Continue printing or reboot the printer.

Unedited/Updated Images still Appearing in Screen Saver:

Issue Description: Issue Description: After editing images, old images are still shown in Screen Saver.

Pre-conditions: Delete all existing Display Customization Images.

  1. 1. Upload at least five images.

  2. Enable Screen Saver in embedded web server (EWS) settings.

  3. Verify that images uploaded are shown in Screen Saver.

  4. Disable Screen Saver in EWS settings.

  5. Replace the existing images with new images.

  6. Enable Screen Saver in EWS settings.

  7. Wait until Screen Saver will kick in and observe if the images are updated.

Original set of images are still shown during screen saver.

The process in replacing the images did not completely remove the original images previously loaded. This caused the image to still appear in the screen saver even though the user replaced/deleted it. FW to fix the issue on EC1

Recommendation:

No Images available when memory is full:

Issue Description: No images are available to display when memory is already full.

  1. 1. Export the UCF file from the embedded web server (EWS).

  2. Attach USB drive to the printer.

  3. Simulate a memory full in the printer

  4. From the Control Panel, click the showroom Icon.

  5. Observe the printer.

No images are displayed.

No memory manager was implemented to handle the error exception.

Recommendation:

Please contact Lexmark Technical Support.

Time display not showing on Background and Idle Screen:

Issue Description: Display time is not appearing on BIS even if it is enabled.

  1. Access printers EWS, and click on the BIS app.

  2. Under settings, select ‘Display Time’.

  3. Place printer into sleep mode.

  4. Wake the printer from sleep mode by walking in front the proximity sensor.

  5. Observe the printer.

Display Customization did not display the time.

There was a delay in displaying the time when idle screen kicks in. This will be fixed in EC1.

Screen Saver Intermittently Freezes on the last Image Displayed:

Issue Description: Screen saver intermittently sticks on the last picture displayed before disabling the flash drive option.

  1. Access EWS go to Apps > Display Customization > Configure > Add multiple images.

  2. Under Screen Saver settings, place a check on Enable Display Time and Enable Flash Drive.

  3. Ensure to have your flash drive path and images properly configured then click apply.

  4. Wait for the printer to display screen saver with images loaded from flash

  5. Access the EWS and uncheck Enable Flash Drive.

  6. Observe printer Control Panel.

- The image seems to freeze and cannot proceed to the next image.

- The issue is intermittent since it will proceed with displaying the loaded images on EWS and not on the flash-drive.

The transition from USB to stored images was not handled accordingly.

Device Security is not functioning under ‘Change Wallpaper’ app:

Issue Description: Device security does not function in "Change Wallpaper" app after printer hibernates.

  1. 1. Access embedded web server (EWS) go to Apps > Display Customization > Configure.

  2. Enable Slideshow Settings and Wallpaper Settings, then click Apply.

  3. Go to Settings > Security > Public > Manage Permissions > Apps.

  4. Uncheck all eSF apps installed, then click Save.

  5. Observe the Change Wallpaper icon on the Control Panel.

  6. Wait for the printer to go into hibernate mode (indicated by a blinking orange light).

  7. Perform a Power-On Reset (POR) with the printer and repeat Step 5.

No padlock icon for Change Wallpaper is shown but unlike the rest of the apps, it is able to launch the Change Wallpaper app without asking for security authentication.

There were some inconsistencies on the data that we returned. This data did not match what the pluggablefac.xml was expecting. That's why it wasn't able to recognize the configuration set.

Image applied is beyond printer specification size:

Issue Description: Was able to successfully apply an image that’s beyond specification size.

  1. Access embedded web server (EWS), click on Settings > Apps.

  2. Access Display Customization > Configure > Screen Saver > Slideshow Images and click Add.

  3. Browse attached image (image size is 927x831) and click Apply.

  4. Observe printer behavior.

Image was successfully added to ‘Screen Saver and Slideshow Images’ list and displayed in OP Panel.

Starting MOJA, administrator can now upload images beyond 800x480 and the device can display them successfully (unlike in Home Stretch and Winner Circle). We will be updating the ReadMe for EC1 to reflect that the resolution is just a recommendation and that administrator can still upload higher-resolution images and does not exceed 64KB file size.

Multiple images can be added with same file name:

Issue Description: User can add multiple images with the same file name under slideshow .

  1. Access embedded web server (EWS) Settings and click Apps.

  2. Click Display Customization > Configure.

  3. Add slideshow image under, Screen Saver and Slideshow Images the click Add.

  4. Add as many as ten images with same file name under slideshow.

User can add multiple slideshow images with the same file name.

The application allowed adding multiple images with the same name. This will be fixed in EC1.

Back button is not functioning when error occurs:

Issue Description: The back button isnot functioning when an error message prompts.

  1. Access embedded web server (EWS) go to App > Display Customization > Configure.

  2. Enable Screen Saver.

  3. Go to Security and remove Screen Saver under Public permissions.

  4. Create any login method; i.e., add an account under Local Accounts > User Name/Password Accounts.

  5. Configure the login method you created in Step 4, remove Screen Saver under its permissions.

  6. Go to control panel and wait for it to display the Screen Saver.

  7. Tap Screen saver: a login prompt will display. Use Login method under which DC is unchecked.

  8. Enter username. The “User ID/password combination" will display.

  9. Tap the soft back button and observe.

Pressing the back button is not functioning.

The application could not properly handle Back and Home buttons when there's an error message being shown. This will be fixed in EC1.

Recommendation: Please contact Lexmark Technical Support.

‘User ID/password combination not verified’ prevents current user from logging out:

Issue Description: Pressing home multiple times while “User ID/password combination not verified.” message is up, won’t log out the current user.

  1. Access EWS go to App > Display Customization > Configure.

  2. Enable Screen Saver.

  3. Go to Security and remove Screen Saver under Public permissions.

  4. Create any login method, i.e., add an account under Local Accounts > User Name/Password Accounts.

  5. Configure the login method you created in Step 4. Remove Screen Saver under its permissions.

  6. Go to panel and wait for it to display the Screen saver.

  7. Tap Screen saver and a Login prompt will display, then use the Login method under which DC is unchecked.

  8. Enter the username info created, and the 'User ID/password combination' will display.

  9. Tap the home icon and wait for the screensaver to kick in.

  10. Tap screensaver and observe.

No login prompt displays, since the current user is not logged out.

In this particular scenario, log out was not properly handled when the login prompt was still displaying. This will be fixed in EC1.

Pressing Home Button multiple times causes printer to Freeze:

Issue Description: ‘Busy please wait message’ occurs after pressing the home button successively (around three times).

  1. Ensure Display Customization application is installed

  2. On EWS go to Security > Public > Manage Permissions the uncheck all eSF apps installed.

  3. Go to App > Display Customization > Configure > Enable Screen Save.

  4. Wait for the screensaver to kick in then press the home button successively (around three or more times).

  5. Observe the printeers behavior.

Printer freezes on "Busy, please wait" on Control Panel.

There was an issue in the press event of clicking home button multiple times. This will be fixed in EC1
