230.x3 Paper Jam when Stapler or Finisher Option Is Connected to the Lexmark CS82x, CX82x, CX860, C6160, XC8155, XC6152, or XC8160 Printer or MFP

Issue Description:

A 230.x3 paper jam appears after installing an output option, such as the inline stapler or a staple-hole punch finisher.


NOTE:

If there is no output option installed on this printer, please refer to the 230.x3 investigation process in the Service Manual.

Sheets do not arrive at the duplex entry sensor, something typically caused by a path obstruction in the peek-a-boo (jam door) area.

Solution:

  1. Check for the presence of an output option on the printer.

  2. Verify the D1 sensor flag rotates freely without obstruction.

  3. Verify the duplex sensor cables are fully connected at both the sensor and controller card (JDPXPP1).

  4. Open the printer’s door B and remove the panel at the bottom-rear side of the duplex (see location A in the image below). Verify whether the connector is fully connected.

  5. Remove the option and test. If jams still occur, then check the standard output bin flag for damage, since improper alignment of the option during installation can cause damage this part.


    NOTE:

    Should there be no damage to the output bin flag and the error still occurs even without an output option, then please refer to the 230.x3 investigation process in the Service Manual.

    Pay close attention to the orientation of the rib (tab) mount positions that shroud the flag assembly, and verify that the flag articulates freely.

  6. Properly align the option, reconnect it, and then test again.
