Troubleshooting

Step

Action

1

For a print quality defect of this type, it is always advisable to print the following:

  • Menu Settings Page – To check the levels of the consumable supplies (i.e., items such as photoconductor units, developer units and toner cartridges), because supplies that are low or near the end of their functional lives can cause various print quality issues independently of printer operation.

Note: The User's Guide provides detailed instructions for navigating through the printer menus.

2

Remove the combo pack with the affected color and then replace the photoconductor unit. If the issue persists after photoconductor unit is replaced, then replace the developer unit.

Note: If the print defect results in a colored background with a missing colored plane, skip to step 5 for additional troubleshooting.

3

If issues persists, place a piece of tape under the combo pack so it will block the photoconductor from the printhead beam, and then insert the combo pack back into the printer.

Note: The tape must not cover the channel or it may be torn off as you slide the combo pack back into the printer.

4

Print the Menu Settings Page and check to see whether the background is void where the tape was placed on the combo pack.

Step

Action

1

Check whether a white void or streak exists where the tape was placed on the combo pack.

Yes: The problem is with the printhead or the printhead cable. Check the flat flex cable connecting the printhead to the controller board for proper connection at both ends. If the cable is properly connected, reseat the connector. No: The issue could be with be with the charge roller HVPS or charge roller HVPS cable. Check the connector on the charge roller HVPS and charge roller HVPS socket (JHVPS2) on the controller board. Reseat cable connector if necessary and check for any damages on the cable connectors.

Note: If re-seating the cable does not resolve the issue, replace the cable and the printhead assembly.

2

Check the charge roll contact button on the wiper rail to make sure it is not stuck, check the continuity between the button contact at the wiper rail and the screw terminal on the charge roller HVPS. If there is no continuity, check the springs on the bottom side of the wiper rail for any damages.

Note: Make sure the charge roll contact button is not shorted to the ground.

3

Replace the CMY(color) wiper rail assembly or the K(black) wiper rail assembly, depending on the affected color.

4

Check continuity of the controller board to the charge roller HVPS cable using a multimeter, replace the cable if reading does not show continuity.

5

If the problem remains after replacing the charge roller HVPS cable assembly, replace the Main HVPS.

6

Should the problem still persist after replacing all the parts recommended, then replace the controller board.
