Consecutive Large Print Jobs Appear to Degrade Printer Speed Over Time

Affected Products:

Single-Function: All Lexmark Color and Mono SFP Devices

Multifunction: All Lexmark Color and Mono MFP Devices

Issue Description:

Slow printing with hesitation up to 10-15 seconds between pages that can lead to an eventual frozen and unresponsive control panel.

This behavior seems to be triggered by consecutive large print jobs.

Additional Identifiers:

Environment: AIX using direct IP with port 9100

Datastream: PCL or PS datastream

Frequency: Intermittent; but this issue increases in frequency after the printer is power cycled and time progresses.

Solution:

Change the Auto Continue setting to 5 if it is currently set to 0. This should allow the printer to print with fewer interventions.

To do this:

  1. Open the printer's Web page;i.e., http://printer_IP address.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Click General Settings.

  4. Click Print Recovery.

  5. Change the Auto Continue value.

  6. Click Submit.

Note:

A value of 0 is the equivalent in meaning to disabled. Early production printers have an Auto Continue value of 0, and printers built with EC5 (.P543), or higher, have a value of 5.
