Issue Description:
Following the IPDS device description procedure outlined in
xref_HO1863_xref results in the printer remaining in a Busy state for a longer than expected time or excessive time is required for the printer to return to ready when IPDS Timeout and host PSFCFG settings set to recommended timeout settings.
Additional Information:
IPDS Timeout setting was set to other than Host Controlled
Printer is running on FW4 and lower.
Stopping and starting the writer is the only way to recover the device.
PSFCFG Release Timer = *NOMAX
* NOMAX will tell the printer to wait for all IPDS jobs sent to it until the host is disconnected to the printer
Solution:
Check
the printer’s current firmware levels.
Update firmware to xxxx.041.220, or greater.
Follow one of the update methods seen below under .FLS file update methods.

How to check printer firmware levels.
To do this, obtain the Menu Settings page or access the printer's embedded web server (EWS) for this purpose.
Checking firmware levels via Printer Menu's Setting page:
1 | Press the Menu button on the Operator Panel. |
2 | Touch Reports. |
3 | Touch Menu Settings Page to start printing. |
4 | Look for the code level under “Device Information”. |
Checking firmware levels via the printer's embedded web server (EWS):
1 | Launch your internet browser application. |
2 | After http://, enter the printer's IP address. |
3 | Click on Reports. |
4 | Click on Device Information. |
.FLS file update methods
Make sure the printer is READY to receive firmware, and do not interrupt the printer's power or data connection during the update process.
