Issue description
When you print from the multipurpose feeder (MPF) and it runs out of paper, the printer registers a 240.84 service error code instead of prompting it to load the MPF tray.
Explanation
A possible cause of this issue is due to the MPF media present sensor being dislodged or not in It's correct position as shown in the image below.
| |
(A) MPF media present sensor in correct position | (B) Dislodged MPF media present sensor |
Recommended solution
Step | Action | Yes | No |
1 | Use a spring hook, or comparable tool,to pull the dislodged MPF media present sensor back into its correct position (C). Did this resolve the issue? | Issue resolved | See next step 2. |
2 | Hold the MPF tray media flag to cause the indicator light to switch ON. The light ON would indicate media is present. Does the light turn off and on? | The sensor is functioning properly. See next step 3. | See Contacting Lexmark |
3 | Does the media flag move freely and with little resistance? Does the light switch OFF without media being present or loaded into the tray? | Continue testing to see if the error returns. | Try to push or pull the flag downward into its socket (fulcrum, pivot) to snap the sensor arm back into place. See Contacting Lexmark. |
