Lexmark C/XC61xx, CS/X82x and XC81xx: Missing Coupling and Retainer Registers a 43.4x Error Message

The printer will post the 43.4

error message (where ‘

’ can be any number and corresponds to a specific

for the toner cartridge), when one of the EP drive gears for the toner cartridge is missing is Coupling and Retainer.

1. Open the printer's front door and remove the toner cartridge indicated in the error message.

   
   Note:Inspect the slot where the toner cartridge came out and check the gear for a missing coupling and retainer.

2. If the coupling and retainer are missing, power the printer off and contact Lexmark TSC support for further diagnosis.

   When both components are present, do not replace the toner cartridge and proceed to Step 3.



3. Reinsert the original toner cartridge that was reported to cause an issue and then update the printer firmware (FW).

   Note: Previous versions of the FW would cause this error to constantly appear. Only updating to a newer version will clear the error message.



4. After performing the FW update, print a Print Quality test page. To do this from the Control Panel, navigate through: Settings > Report > Print Quality Pages.

   Open and then close the front door to clear the 43.4x error message if still appears.



5. Replace the affected

   toner cartridge

   , should the 43.4x error code reoccur after performing the preceding troubleshooting.
